When tragedy hits, you learn who your people are. This week, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber learned it in the hardest way imaginable — and George and Amal Clooney made sure they didn’t face it alone.
Following the death of the Crawford-Gerber family’s son Presley earlier this week, the Clooneys traveled to Los Angeles to be with their longtime friends, according to People. And they didn’t just stop by. George, Amal, and a small circle of close friends have been organizing shifts, staying with the family around the clock so nobody has to sit with the grief by themselves.
“George, Amal and a few of their other close friends have been taking shifts staying with the family so they aren’t alone,” a source told People. “George and Amal joined the family in Los Angeles after learning of Presley’s death. They’re helping with arrangements and whatever else the family needs. George has always been very close with both Kaia and Presley.”
Decades of friendship
This isn’t a Hollywood photo-op friendship. George Clooney and Rande Gerber go back decades — the two are even business partners on the Casamigos tequila brand — and the families have been intertwined for years.
That history is exactly why the loss has hit so hard. Another source told Page Six this week that George and Amal “are absolutely beside themselves with grief. George is completely shattered by Presley’s death. He’s known him his entire life, and he never imagined things would ever get to this point.”
“He always saw Cindy and Rande as having this beautiful family, and he can’t begin to imagine what they’re going through right now,” the source added.
A heartbreaking detail
Just days before Presley’s unexpected passing, his sister Kaia mentioned him in a new interview — a detail that makes the timing feel especially cruel. An official cause of death has not been revealed. Dispatch calls to the rehab facility where he died reportedly mentioned cardiac arrest and a suspected overdose.
There’s nothing to say about a loss like this that doesn’t sound small next to it. But showing up — quietly, in shifts, for as long as it takes — is about the most human response there is. Our thoughts are with the Crawford-Gerber family.
