Josh Brolin and Kathryn Renew Vows in Vegas With an Elvis Impersonator — and Metallica

Some couples mark ten years together with a quiet dinner. Josh Brolin and his wife Kathryn went to Vegas, got an Elvis impersonator to marry them all over again, and blasted Metallica about it.
The 58-year-old actor and Kathryn Boyd Brolin renewed their vows in Las Vegas this weekend, sharing the whole joyful, slightly unhinged celebration in a joint Instagram post on Saturday (November 7). And honestly? It might be the most on-brand thing either of them has ever done.
“Vegas, Vows and Metallicaaaaa baby,” they wrote in the caption, alongside a string of flaming heart emojis. Short, loud, and completely unbothered. That’s the energy.
An Elvis, a Chapel, and a Whole Lot of Metallica
The photo carousel kicks off with a shot that basically tells the whole story in one frame: Josh carrying Kathryn in his arms in front of the famous Little White Wedding Chapel, one of the most storied wedding spots on the Strip. If you’ve ever driven past it at 2 a.m. and wondered who actually gets married there, the answer is apparently everyone — including one of the biggest movie stars on the planet.
The ceremony itself had exactly one non-negotiable ingredient: Elvis. A Presley impersonator in a rhinestone white suit officiated the renewal, popping up in the background of several photos and posing with the couple for at least one shot of his own. This is Vegas, after all. You don’t renew your vows in Sin City without the King showing up in some form.
Another photo catches the pair mid-kiss during the ceremony, and the family snapshots include their two daughters, Westlyn, 8, and Chapel, 5 — though the girls’ faces are covered with emojis, because some things stay private even when your dad is Thanos.
Kathryn kept it perfectly Vegas-meets-country for the occasion, wearing a sleeveless white dress paired with cowboy boots. Josh went with a button-down shirt, jeans, and sunglasses. No tux, no fuss, no red carpet stiffness. Just two people who clearly still like each other a whole lot, a decade in.
Ten Years In — and Still Doing It Their Way
The Brolins have been married since September 2016, which puts them right at the ten-year mark. That’s a serious milestone in any marriage, let alone a Hollywood one, where the average relationship lifespan sometimes feels like it is measured in award seasons rather than years.
They met in the most Hollywood way possible — Kathryn was working as Josh’s assistant — and the relationship grew from there into something that has clearly stuck. She was by his side long before the Marvel years turned him into one of the most recognisable faces in blockbuster cinema, and she has been there through the quieter stretches too.
What is striking about the way they handle their relationship in public is how little they perform it. They don’t overshare, they don’t stage elaborate anniversary posts every year, and they don’t turn their marriage into content. Then, every so often, they drop something like this — a Vegas vow renewal with an Elvis impersonator — and you remember that the low-key couples are often the ones having the most fun.
The Metallica nod in the caption is a nice little tell, too. Josh has never hidden his love of loud music, and the stretched-out “Metallicaaaaa” reads like a man who had a very good night and wanted everyone to know it. You can practically hear the riff.
From Child Star to Hollywood Heavyweight
It is easy to forget just how long Josh Brolin has been at this. He made his film debut as Brand Walsh in The Goonies back in 1985, a fresh-faced teenager in what became one of the most beloved adventure films of the decade. For a while after that, Hollywood didn’t quite know what to do with him, and his career drifted through the nineties in fits and starts.
Then came the comeback — one of the great second acts in modern Hollywood. His turn as Llewelyn Moss in the Coen brothers’ No Country for Old Men (2007) put him right back at the centre of the conversation, and his Oscar-nominated performance as Dan White in Milk (2008) sealed it. Suddenly Brolin wasn’t a former child star anymore. He was one of the most in-demand character actors working.
Since then, the résumé has barely slowed down: True Grit, Sicario, Hail, Caesar!, and of course the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where his motion-capture performance as Thanos made him the villain of the biggest movies ever made. More recently he has kept the run going with Dune and Dune: Part Two as the gruff, loyal Gurney Halleck, the Amazon series Outer Range, and a string of 2025 releases including the horror hit Weapons and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
He also published a memoir last year, From Under the Truck, a raw, funny, and at times brutally honest account of his life, his family, and his struggles. It is the kind of book that only works if the person writing it is willing to be genuinely uncomfortable on the page, and Brolin clearly was.
Last month, he opened up about being sober for 12 years and how quitting drinking changed his life. It is the sort of thing he talks about plainly, without self-pity or showmanship — just a man who made a hard decision and stuck with it. A decade of marriage and twelve years sober, celebrated in the same season. That is a pretty good year by anyone’s measure.
A Family Affair in Vegas
What makes the renewal photos work is how un-Hollywood they feel. Yes, there is an Elvis impersonator and a famous chapel and a movie star in sunglasses. But the centre of it is a family — two little girls with emoji over their faces, a mum in cowboy boots, a dad carrying his wife across the threshold like it is the first time.
Westlyn, born in 2018, and Chapel, born in 2020, are the couple’s two children together. Josh is also dad to two older children, Eden and Trevor, from his first marriage. The Vegas photos keep the focus on the younger girls, but the whole point of a vow renewal is that it is a family event, not just a couple’s one. The kids were there. The friends were there. Elvis was there. Everyone got the memo.
And there is something quietly sweet about choosing the Little White Wedding Chapel for this. The place has hosted everyone from Frank Sinatra to Britney Spears over the decades, and it has seen just about every version of a Vegas wedding you can imagine — the impulsive, the star-studded, the deeply unserious. The Brolins turned it into something else: a ten-year anniversary with their kids in tow and a rock band in the caption.
Hollywood loves a big romantic gesture, but it usually comes with a publicist, a magazine exclusive, and a sponsored hashtag. This one came with a carousel of phone photos, a joke about Metallica, and an Elvis in rhinestones. Somehow that feels more romantic than all of it.
Ten years, two kids, twelve years sober, and a vow renewal in Vegas officiated by the King himself. Here’s to the next ten — and to whatever playlist they pick for that one.
