Matt Bellamy has a new chapter, and he’s not keeping it quiet anymore. The Muse frontman went public with his new girlfriend, AnneMarie Morin, this week — sharing a photo of the two of them kissing inside her Chicago bakery — just months after filing for divorce from his wife, Elle Evans.

It wasn’t a red carpet debut. There was no glossy magazine cover, no coordinated press release, no cryptic soft launch stretched across three weeks of Instagram Stories. Instead, Bellamy did it the way a lot of people do it now: he posted a carousel of pictures from an ordinary day, and tucked the big moment right in the middle of it.

“New part time job, boss is a tough cookie,” the 48-year-old rocker wrote in the caption of the post, shared on Thursday, October 15. The photos showed him hanging around Cloud Cookie, the Chicago bakery Morin owns. And in one of the shots, Morin is holding up her phone for a mirror selfie while Bellamy, wearing a light blue apron over a black shirt, wraps an arm around her waist and leans in for a kiss.

That was it. No long caption explaining anything. No tags spelling out the relationship. Just a kiss in a cookie shop, posted for the whole world to see.

Neither Bellamy nor Morin, 34, has said anything more about the relationship since the post went up. But honestly, they didn’t need to. A photo like that says plenty all on its own.

A Cookie Shop Romance in Chicago

So who is AnneMarie Morin? She’s not a fellow musician, not an actress, not someone from the usual celebrity orbit. She owns Cloud Cookie, a bakery in Chicago — which makes this whole thing feel a little more grounded than your typical rock star romance reveal.

There’s something genuinely charming about the setting. Bellamy is a guy who has spent the better part of three decades playing to stadium crowds, shredding guitar solos under laser shows, and singing about government conspiracies and black holes. And here he is, apron on, playing bakery assistant, joking that his new boss is a tough cookie.

It’s a small detail, but it tells you something. The post wasn’t staged like a publicity move. It read like a guy who was having a good day and wanted to share it. The apron, the joke about the part-time job, the casual mirror selfie — it all felt lived-in rather than performed.

For a rock star whose public life has mostly played out on enormous stages, a cookie shop in Chicago is about as far from that world as you can get. Maybe that’s the point. After a year that’s clearly been heavy in his personal life, a quieter, sweeter corner of the world might be exactly what he’s after.

Morin herself has kept a low profile so far, and that’s probably wise. Stepping into the spotlight as the new girlfriend of a famous musician is never easy, especially when the ink on his divorce isn’t dry yet. But the photo she took — the one Bellamy shared — suggests she’s comfortable enough to let the world in, at least a little.

The Divorce From Elle Evans

Of course, the timing here is impossible to ignore. Bellamy is still going through divorce proceedings with his estranged wife, Elle Evans, 36. He filed for divorce in August 2026 after seven years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, and requested sole custody of their two children: daughter Lovella, 6, and son George, 2.

The split became public earlier this year, and Bellamy addressed it in a June interview with The I Paper, where he made it clear the breakup wasn’t something anyone saw coming — including him.

“It’s one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn’t normally think it is,” he said at the time. “It was a set of really unexpected circumstances. It’s the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life. It threw me off, and I had to prioritize looking after the kids and creating stability at home.”

That’s a remarkably honest thing for a celebrity to say in the middle of a divorce. No blame, no spin, no attempt to dress it up. Just a guy admitting he’d been knocked sideways and that his kids had to come first.

It also puts the new relationship in context. Bellamy hasn’t pretended the last year was easy. He’s talked about unexpected circumstances and about needing to steady things at home. So a new romance surfacing now — a couple of months after the divorce filing — reads less like a rebound headline and more like someone finding his footing again.

Still, there’s no getting around the awkwardness of the timeline. Going public with a new partner while divorce proceedings are still underway is always going to invite opinions. Some people will think it’s too soon. Others will shrug and say life moves at its own pace. Bellamy, for his part, seems unbothered either way. He posted the photo. He let it speak for itself. And then he moved on.

From Kate Hudson to a New Beginning

This isn’t Bellamy’s first high-profile relationship, and it’s worth remembering the road that got him here. Before Elle Evans, he was with actress Kate Hudson from 2010 to 2014. The two were engaged, and they share a son, Bingham, who is now 15.

That relationship played out in the full glare of the celebrity press — red carpets, vacation photos, engagement speculation, and then the eventual split. Bellamy and Hudson have stayed on good terms since, co-parenting their son without the kind of public drama that tends to follow famous breakups.

His marriage to Evans was a different story. Evans, a model and actress, married Bellamy in 2019, and the couple kept a lower profile than his previous relationship. They welcomed Lovella and then George, and for years the family appeared settled — which is part of why the split, when it came, landed with a thud.

Now, with a new partner in the picture, Bellamy’s personal life is entering yet another chapter. And if the cookie shop photos are any indication, this one looks a little different from the ones before it. Less red carpet, more real life. Less performance, more apron.

Muse, the Music, and What Comes Next

It would be easy to forget, in all the relationship talk, that Bellamy has a day job — and it’s a pretty enormous one. As the frontman, guitarist, and principal songwriter of Muse, he’s spent nearly thirty years building one of the biggest rock bands on the planet.

Formed in Teignmouth, Devon, in the mid-1990s with bassist Chris Wolstenholme and drummer Dominic Howard, Muse went from small-town British band to stadium-filling global act on the back of albums like Origin of Symmetry, Absolution, and Black Holes and Revelations. Their sound — part prog-rock, part electronic, part apocalyptic opera — made them one of the defining rock acts of the 2000s, and Bellamy’s falsetto and guitar work became the band’s signature.

The band has won Grammy Awards, headlined Glastonbury, and sold out arenas on just about every continent. Bellamy’s onstage persona — intense, theatrical, a little bit unhinged in the best way — is the stuff of rock legend.

Which is exactly why the cookie shop photos landed the way they did. There’s a delicious contrast between the guy who screams his way through “Knights of Cydonia” in front of 80,000 people and the guy quietly wearing an apron in a Chicago bakery, joking about his new boss. Fans ate it up, and the comments on the post were predictably warm — a lot of people just seemed happy to see him smiling.

As for what’s next, musically and personally, Bellamy hasn’t laid out any grand plan. Muse’s schedule, the divorce proceedings, and now a new relationship — there’s a lot moving at once. But if there’s one thing Bellamy’s career has shown, it’s that he’s never been afraid of a sharp left turn. A band that went from Radiohead comparisons to dubstep breakdowns to a full-on concept album about simulation theory was never going to play it safe in his personal life either.

Why This Debut Feels Different

Here’s the thing about celebrity relationship debuts: most of them feel focus-grouped. There’s the coordinated magazine cover, the red carpet walk, the carefully worded statement from a representative. Everything is managed within an inch of its life.

This one wasn’t. A carousel of bakery photos, a goofy caption, a kiss caught in a mirror selfie — it felt like something a regular person would post. And maybe that’s why it worked. In a week full of polished celebrity news, a genuinely unpolished moment stood out.

It also helped that Bellamy didn’t over-explain. He didn’t write a paragraph about finding love again or healing or new beginnings. He just posted the pictures and let people draw their own conclusions. In an era when every celebrity announcement comes with a three-paragraph essay, a little restraint goes a long way.

Of course, the story isn’t over. Divorce proceedings are still ongoing, and the public will be watching to see how this plays out — how Evans responds, if she responds at all, and whether Morin steps further into the public eye or stays happily behind the counter at Cloud Cookie. For now, though, the message is simple: Matt Bellamy has moved on, he’s smiling, and he’s spending time in a cookie shop in Chicago.

There are worse places to start over.
