Tobey Maguire Officiates Ex-Wife Jennifer Meyer’s Wedding

Most divorced couples are lucky if the paperwork goes through without a fight. Tobey Maguire skipped the whole awkward phase entirely — and grabbed a microphone instead.
A Ceremony Nobody Saw Coming
Over the weekend, the 51-year-old actor stood at the head of an open-air ceremony at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii and officiated his ex-wife’s wedding. Really. Jennifer Meyer — the jewelry designer, the mother of two of his children, the woman whose divorce from him was only finalized weeks ago — married music executive Geoffrey Ogunlesi on Saturday, October 10, with Tobey himself running the proceedings.
It’s the kind of detail that sounds made up until you see the photographs. There he is: Spider-Man in a suit and tie, papers in one hand, finger raised mid-sentence, looking entirely at home as the woman he married back in 2007 said “I do” to somebody else. Jennifer wore a strapless white gown with a long veil for the outdoor ceremony; Geoffrey went classic in a black suit and bow tie. And the ex-husband presiding over it all appeared to be having a genuinely good time.
The Guest List Was Practically a Red Carpet
This was not some quiet, keep-it-in-the-family affair, either. The guest list read like the front row of an awards show. Leonardo DiCaprio was there with his girlfriend, model Vittoria Ceretti. Jeff Bezos attended with his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos. Kate Hudson brought her fiancé, Danny Fujikawa. Courteney Cox and celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe rounded out a crowd that, honestly, could have headlined a Vanity Fair party on its own.
And the blended family? Fully in attendance. Tobey and Jennifer’s two kids — Ruby, 19, and Otis, 17 — were part of the celebration, and so was the baby girl Jennifer welcomed with Geoffrey earlier this year. Three kids, one ex-husband with the microphone, one new husband at the altar, and one very expensive Hawaiian resort. Modern family, meet Hollywood’s most relaxed version of it yet.
The internet, predictably, had thoughts. The comments on the wedding photos split roughly into two camps: the ones marveling at the emotional maturity on display (“This is a level of healthy most of us aren’t used to”) and the ones who simply could not fathom being asked to officiate their ex’s wedding (“Being on good terms with your ex is one thing! I would not want to watch him read vows I said to him years ago”). Fair. This is not standard operating procedure. But then again, these two have never really done divorce the standard way.
Divorce, the Tobey and Jennifer Way
Jennifer and Tobey married in 2007, separated in 2016, and she filed for divorce in October 2020. After years of court paperwork, their marital status was officially dissolved on September 21, 2026 — though court documents suggested a few loose ends still needed tying up. That means the ink on the divorce was barely three weeks dry when Tobey showed up in Hawaii to marry her off. Which tells you just about everything you need to know about how these two actually feel about each other.
Because here’s the thing: they never really broke up the way celebrities usually break up. No cryptic unfollowings, no dueling tell-alls, no “irreconcilable differences” press releases issued through publicists who sound like they’re reading a hostage statement. They separated, filed, took their time — six years, in fact — and stayed a family through all of it.
Jennifer said as much herself in a December 2025 interview, where she called Tobey her best friend and described the friendship he’d developed with her then-fiancé. “The cutest part is Tobey and my fiance, Geoff, love each other so much,” she said. You can argue about the timeline all you want — that’s a remarkable thing for anyone to say about the ex who is about to hand you off at your wedding. And yet the photos from Hawaii suggest she meant every word of it.
The Blended Family Blueprint
It also puts Geoffrey Ogunlesi in an interesting light. Being the guy your fiancée’s ex-husband likes that much is one thing; being the guy whose wedding the ex-husband volunteers to officiate is another entirely. Jennifer and Geoffrey announced their engagement in 2024, and they’ve already built a life together that includes a baby girl born earlier this year. Whatever the dynamic, it clearly works — three adults, three kids, zero visible drama, and one very public wedding where everyone smiled.
Spider-Man’s Quietest Second Act
For Tobey, the whole thing adds another chapter to one of Hollywood’s quieter second acts. He’ll always be the defining Peter Parker of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy — the guy who made “with great power comes great responsibility” a generational touchstone back in 2002 — but his career since has been deliberately low-key. Supporting turns in The Great Gatsby, a memorable appearance in Babylon, and a lot of poker tables he’d rather you not write about. He doesn’t chase headlines. He barely does press. And now the biggest story attached to his name in months is him being the best ex-husband in recorded history.
There’s something almost refreshing about the whole scene. Celebrity weddings tend to be exercises in control — the NDAs, the exclusive photo deals, the strategically timed announcements. This one had its share of glamour, sure: the Lanai resort, the billionaire-adjacent guest list, the designer gown. But the central image is a guy in a suit, smiling, reading from his notes while his ex-wife gets married to someone else. No drama, no tension, just a man who apparently decided that the healthiest way to close one chapter was to preside over the next one.
Do weddings need an officiant? Yes. Does the officiant need to be the bride’s ex-husband? Emphatically no. But when it happens anyway — and happens joyfully — it stops being a curiosity and starts being a blueprint. Divorce doesn’t have to be a war. Sometimes it’s just two people who figured out they were better as friends, and meant it enough to stand together at an altar years later.
Congratulations to Jennifer and Geoffrey. And honestly, congratulations to Tobey too. He might have given the shortest best-man-style speech of his life — he was working, after all — but he nailed the most important part: showing up.
