Tom Holland’s Brother Sam Calls Zendaya His ‘Lovely Sister-in-Law’ in Sweet Cooking Show Moment

Look, the biggest celebrity moment of the week didn’t happen on a red carpet. It didn’t come with a magazine cover or a big Instagram reveal, either. It slipped out during a cooking show intro — said so casually you could’ve missed it if you blinked. And then, naturally, the internet played it back about a hundred times.

Here’s what happened. Sam Holland, Tom Holland’s younger brother, showed up on season six of Cooking with the Stars, the ITV1 and ITVX cooking competition, as one of the professional mentors. During his introduction video, while running through the famous folks he’s cooked for, he named two people. And just like that, fans were off.

“I’m Sam Holland and I am a chef and a content creator with over a million followers,” he said in the clip, which soon made its way onto X. “Over the years, I’ve cooked for some high profile celebs, such as Tom Holland and Zendaya, and they do happen to be my brother and lovely sister-in-law.”

That’s it. No drumroll. No coy little pause. Just “my brother and lovely sister-in-law,” delivered the way you’d talk about family over Sunday dinner. Because that’s what they are to him, plain and simple.

The little line everyone caught

On paper, it was a throwaway. Sam was introducing himself, listing what he does, name-checking a couple of people he’s fed. But if you’ve followed Tom Holland and Zendaya for any length of time, you know why that one word — sister-in-law — set everyone off.

These two have guarded their private life like it was classified information. They met on Spider-Man: Homecoming, spent years swatting away questions about whether they were even together, and only let the public in bit by bit. A photo here. A birthday post there. A red carpet moment that said more than any interview ever would.

So when a family member drops “sister-in-law” on national TV, like it’s the most normal thing in the world? Yeah, people notice. Of course they do.

What made it land, I think, is that Sam wasn’t making a statement. He wasn’t teasing anything or trying to trend. He was just being a proud younger brother who happens to cook for two of the most famous people alive — and who clearly thinks the world of both of them. That word “lovely” did a lot of work, too. Not formal. Not stiff. Warm. Fond. The kind of thing you say about someone who’s genuinely become part of the family, not someone you’re performing closeness with for the cameras.

And it came from Sam himself. Not a source. Not an insider whispering to a tabloid. Family talking about family just hits different — it feels real in a way a blind item never can.

Sam’s not just “Tom’s brother,” by the way

Quick aside, because this matters: it’s way too easy to flatten Sam into “Tom Holland’s brother” and move on. Don’t. The guy is 27, a chef and content creator with over a million followers, and a cookbook author who’s built his own audience around food — not film sets, not red carpets, just cooking.

His spot on Cooking with the Stars makes total sense when you look at it that way. The show pairs celebs with pro chef mentors, and Sam fits that job easily. He knows a kitchen, he’s comfortable on camera, and he’s got the easy, funny energy you want when someone’s trying not to burn dinner on television. This season he mentored stand-up comedian Seann Walsh, who got eliminated in an episode that aired earlier this week. Short run, sure — but that intro clip alone got Sam more attention than most mentors see all season.

Then there’s the wider family picture. Sam is one of four Holland brothers: Tom, Sam and his twin Harry, and the youngest, Paddy. Along with their parents, Nicola and Dominic Holland, the brothers run The Brothers Trust, the charity the family set up back in 2017. That detail tells you plenty about how this family works. They’re close. They do stuff together. And they’ve turned that closeness into something that actually helps people, which is more than you can say for a lot of famous families.

So no, Sam isn’t some distant relative popping up for a quote. He’s right in the middle of it — cooking for them, celebrating with them, and now happily calling Zendaya his sister-in-law on TV without even thinking twice about it.

Why Tom and Zendaya fans freaked out (in a good way)

To get why one little phrase caused such a stir, you’ve got to remember how this couple has played things from day one. First linked years ago, back when Homecoming made them Peter Parker and MJ, they insisted for ages they were just good friends. Fans didn’t buy it for a second, obviously, but the couple held their line and kept the details to themselves.

Slowly, though, the picture filled in. Sweet birthday posts. Low-key outings. The odd public appearance that made it clear: okay, this is real. And somehow — honestly, how? — they built something steady while living under the brightest spotlight in Hollywood. Zendaya went from Disney kid to Euphoria to massive film roles in Dune and Challengers. Tom went from a West End Billy Elliot kid to Spider-Man himself. And through all of that noise, they kept their relationship theirs.

Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the two had secretly got married — quietly, obviously, with no splashy magazine deal and no week-long social media celebration. Just a wedding, and then life carrying on as normal. Which, if you know anything about these two, sounds exactly right.

Sam’s line fits that story perfectly. It doesn’t feel like a leak. It doesn’t feel like a slip. It feels like a family member talking the way family members talk when a marriage is just… a fact of life. Not a headline to manage. Not a secret to guard anymore. Just family. And for fans who’ve waited years for anything close to confirmation, hearing it said out loud — that relaxed, that casually — beat any official statement cold.

Sam’s got his own wedding coming, too

Meanwhile, Sam has his own big day on the horizon. Over the summer, he announced his engagement to his girlfriend, Clark Stewart. So the Holland household is heading into a run of celebrations: one brother newly married, another one planning his own wedding. Not a bad stretch.

It’s fun to picture those family get-togethers now. Tom and Zendaya, Sam and Clark, Harry and Paddy, mum and dad, all in one room — with Sam almost certainly cooking. And since he’s cooked for Tom and Zendaya before, you’ve got to wonder what’s on the menu at a Holland family dinner. Something impressive, you’d hope. Though knowing families, it probably ends with everyone arguing, lovingly, about who makes the best roast.

There’s something genuinely nice about all of this. Fame has a habit of pulling families apart, or turning siblings into rivals, or making every family moment feel like content. From the outside, at least, the Hollands seem to have dodged most of that. They show up for each other. They do charity work together. And they talk about each other with real affection — even on a cooking show, even in an intro video nobody expected to go viral.

Small moment, big reason it worked

Here’s the thing about celebrity news: it’s full of big, loud moments. Breakups, blowups, surprise announcements engineered to break the internet. This was the opposite. A small, warm, human moment that nobody planned as a viral clip — and that’s precisely why people loved it.

It confirmed something fans already believed. It showed a family that actually likes each other. And it did all that without any fuss whatsoever. Sam Holland went on a cooking show to teach a comedian how to cook, and walked off having handed Tom and Zendaya fans their favourite moment of the week. Not a bad day’s work for an introduction video.

And if Seann Walsh’s elimination means Sam’s run on Cooking with the Stars is done for this season, well — he still left with a line people will be quoting for a while. “My brother and lovely sister-in-law.” Short. Sweet. Said like it was the most normal thing in the world.

For Sam Holland, it is.
